Choose a learning pathway around a real project
Episode notes for selecting a practical starting point rather than collecting unrelated tools.
Start with a task you want to perform
Name something you want to be able to make or do: edit a short explainer, build a service page or organise a reporting routine. That task gives you a way to judge whether the learning pathway is relevant.
Check the starting requirements
Confirm the assumed experience, equipment, time commitment and any software costs. A pathway should fit your starting point without hiding the resources needed to practise.
Look for feedback
Exercises become more useful when you receive specific feedback and have time to revise. Ask what the project will involve, how it will be reviewed and what evidence of your work you can keep.
Plan the next use
Decide where you will apply the skill after the initial exercise. A second project, a portfolio explanation or a practice routine can be a clearer next step than an immediate promise of paid work.
Put it into practice
- Choose an outcome you can demonstrate.
- Confirm the practice and review format.
- Plan a second use of the skill.
