Make a creative feedback conversation more useful
Episode notes for turning broad reactions into decisions a creator can act on.
Return to the brief
Start the review with the audience, purpose and agreed constraints. A preference can be worth discussing, but it should be distinguished from a requirement. That gives the conversation a shared reference point.
Describe the problem
Instead of “make it pop”, explain what is difficult to notice or understand. A headline may be competing with an image or the next step may be hard to locate. A specific observation leaves room for the designer to choose an appropriate solution.
Collect one clear response
When several people review the work, nominate someone to reconcile conflicting comments. Identify which notes are essential, which are exploratory and who can decide between competing directions.
Close with the next action
Summarise the changes, open questions and next review point. Record any change in scope separately. A useful review ends with a shared understanding of what will happen next.
Put it into practice
- Connect comments to the brief.
- Describe the issue before prescribing a solution.
- Resolve conflicting feedback before the next revision.
