Turn your experience into clear interview stories

Episode notes for explaining your contribution with specific examples rather than broad claims.

Choose a relevant example

Start with a responsibility in the target role and select a genuine situation that demonstrates it. A small example you can explain well is more useful than a dramatic story you cannot support. Separate your contribution from the team’s overall work.

Build a simple sequence

Describe the situation, the task, your actions and the result. Keep the background short enough that the listener reaches your decisions quickly. Explain why you chose your approach and what trade-off you considered.

Use evidence carefully

Where you have a reliable measure, state it with context. If you do not have a number, describe the observable outcome without inventing one. You might explain that a handover became clearer or that a recurring error was resolved, then say how you know.

Practise the follow-up

Rehearse questions about setbacks, alternative approaches and what you would change. The aim is not to memorise a perfect speech. It is to understand your example well enough to explain it in your own words.

Put it into practice

  • Choose two genuine examples relevant to your target role.
  • Write your actions separately from the team’s actions.
  • Practise a short answer and one follow-up question.
